Setting Up iCloud.com Email

Setting Up iCloud.com Email

Due to recent security changes to email, Apple iCloud requires enabling Two-Factor Authentication along with creating an App-Specific Password.

This tutorial will provide the steps to enable Two-Factor Authentication, create an App-Specific Password, and setup your Outgoing Email Server in DJ Event Planner.

These steps provided are from setting up via a browser on a computer; if using a mobile device, the steps might be slightly different.

Apple has begun making two-factor authentication required and is most likely already enabled, however, still check to confirm that it is.  If it is not enabled, when you log into your Apple ID it should walk you through the steps to enable when logging in.

Checking that Two-Step Verification is enabled from the web:

  1. Login to your iCloud account with your Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com (you can also get here if logged into your iCloud account in a browser by clicking your icon in the upper right, then on Manage Apple ID)
  2. In the left menu, click on ‘Sign-In and Security’
  3. Click on ‘Account Security’
  4. If by chance Two-factor authentication is not turned on, click on Turn On and follow the prompts.

If on mobile or Mac, you can also follow these instructions to check/enable two-factor authentication:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > your name > Sign-In & Security. Tap Turn On Two-Factor Authentication. Then tap Continue and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • On your Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences), then click your name (or Apple ID). Click Sign-In & Security. Next to Two-Factor Authentication, click Turn On and follow the onscreen instructions.

Create an App-Specific Password

  1. Sign into https://appleid.apple.com
  2. In the left menu, click on ‘Sign-In and Security’
  3. Click on ‘App-Specific Passwords’ then on ‘Generate an app-specific password’
  4. Give the App-Specific Password a title, this is solely for your reference as to why you created this password, ie: DJEP2024, then click on Create and re-enter your Apple password.
  5. An app-specific password will be generated; copy that app password.  (do not close this window until you have completed setting up your Outgoing Server in case you need to copy again.  If you accidentally close the window before copying, you will need to repeat the steps above to generate a new app-specific password.)

Setup Outgoing Email Server in DJEP

  1. Log into DJEP -> Setup -> Emails -> Settings
  2. Click on the employee type you are working on to expand it.
  3. Under the employee that is being setup, click on ’Setup’ or ‘Edit’ next to ‘Outgoing Server’

Enter the below credentials:

Username: YOUR FULL EMAIL ADDRESS
Password: THE COPIED PASSWORD THAT YOU JUST CREATED
Outgoing SMTP Server: smtp.mail.me.com
Outgoing Port Number: 587

Click on ‘Save Settings’

If you followed all of the steps above, you should receive a ‘Connected Successfully’ message.

If you receive an error message here, please repeat the above steps to ensure no steps were skipped.

IMPORTANT – If you change your Apple password, it will delete any previously created App-Specific Passwords.  If you change your password, you will need to create a new app-specific password and update the Outgoing Email Server credentials with the new password for it to continue working.
